Kat

I had this dream.

I had this dream I didn’t even really mean to have.

I told people this dream…..people looked at me funny.

I told people I was going to be a photographer.  I think they all thought I was a little off.  Some gave me that polite smile with that “she must be crazy” look behind their eyes.  Part of me doesn’t blame them.  I had a secure job for pretty much the rest of my life, steady  income, insurance, predictable hours.  Why would I leave that to do something I may or may not succeed at?

Because if I didn’t try….I would never know.  And that would been worse than failure.

I am an advocate of pursuing your dreams.  So often fear keeps us right where we are.  Pursuing your dreams is scary, but it’s empowering…..and I feel like it requires a lot of faith and perseverance.

I was just at a photography convention this week and one of the speakers repeated something that was spoken to her…and that was “I would rather see you fail at something you  love, than succeed at something you hate.”

What are you chasing after?  Is it working for you?  What are you becoming?  Are there dreams you need to chase after?  What’s stopping you?  We are not promised tomorrow….so why not today?  Even if it’s the smallest step….go after what you love.  There will be no regret regardless of the outcome when you pursue what you are passionate about.

Five years after pursuing this dream, I can’t say I’ve got it all together.  I have a lot of successes and even more failures.  I’m always learning.  There are things I wish I had done differently…hindsight is always 20/20…but I don’t regret stepping out and making my dream a reality.  When I see others pursue what they love and take risks, my eyes get a little teary and I just want to like throw them a party or something.  I get that excited!

So about a year-ish ago, when my friend Kat said she wanted to pursue her love for photography…I felt that excitement for her and her journey.  So much has happened in the last year of her life and looking back you can see how God has woven this story for her and put her in the hands of people that want to empower her to achieve the dreams that dance around in her head.  Such a blessing!

Kat is a dreamer, a lover of people, a servant, a deep thinker, a loyal friend.  Her laugh is contagious, her merciful spirit is admirable, and heart is willing to be taught.  She hopes and hurts for others.  She will try out crazy ideas with you.  She dances in public.  She will give you her shoes if you need them.  There are so many angles to her personality…which make me appreciate her friendship so much.  To me, the images below express so many of those angles!  Love you Kat…proud of you for going after what you love!

p.s. I totally wrote this blog with Priscilla Ahn’s “Dream” running through my head if you need a soundtrack while you read it! haha
